Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan

Mansoor Usman Awan is the current Attorney General of Pakistan. Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif had appointed Shehzad Ata Elahi as Attorney General of Pakistan. He assumed office on March 27, 2023. He is prominent Pakistani lawyer of Pakistan Advocate of Supreme Court and has been practicing law. He specializes in civil, commercial, corporate and constitutional litigation, mergers and acquisitions, corporate, commercial, tax and banking laws. Mansoor Osman Awan was born in Lahore Pakistan. He did his Bachelor of Law (LLB) from the Punjab University Law College in 2002 and earned the Justice M Jan Memorial gold medal for the first position in jurisprudence, and the Charles Earl Bevan Petman law prize for the first position in criminal law. He completed his Master of Law (LLM) in 2005 from Harvard Law School and received the Dean’s Award for Leadership. He also served as president of the Harvard Graduate Council from 2004-05.

The office of Attorney General Pakistan was established in 1947. The Office of the Attorney General for Pakistan is a constitutional office created under Article 100 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973 and is headed by an AGP. A person who is competent to be appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court can be appointed Attorney General for Pakistan. He is the Principal Law Officer of the Federation. The Attorney General Office represents, defends and protects the interests of the federal Government, and provides invaluable legal guidance to the federal Government in matters of policy formulation and execution of its decisions.
