Amjad Hussain is the current chief Minister of Gilgit Baltistan. He is 5th elected chief minister of Gilgit Baltistan and assumed office on 23rd June 2026. He was elected unopposed as the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan on June 22, 2026. Politically he is affiliated with Pakistan Peoples Party PPP. He is also the President of the People's Party Gilgit-Baltistan. He was elected member of Gilgit Baltistan Assembly from GBLA-1 Gilgit-I. He was sworn in as Chief Minister of Gilgit Baltistan on July 6, 2026 which was administered by Syed Mehdi Shah governor GB. He has also been serving as the Leader of the Opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly since 2020 to 2023.

Amjad Hussain was born in 1975 in Amphary, Gilgit. He comes from a well-known political family. His father, Azar Khan, was a senior leader of the PPP. He completed his early schooling at Government High School No. 1 Gilgit and did his FSc from Public School and College Jutial. Later, he earned his LLB degree from the University of the Punjab in Lahore and started his career as a lawyer. From 2009 to 2014, he was a member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council, where he took part in discussions on governance reforms, constitutional matters, and lawmaking. In the 2020 Gilgit-Baltistan elections, Amjad Hussain won from both GBA-1 Gilgit-I and GBA-4 Nagar-I. He became the first politician in the region’s history to win from two constituencies in the same election.
